Chairs
Chair Overview
The chair was formed as a result of unification of the chairs of “Geology and extraction technology” and “Mining”.
Currently, the mining engineering staff, from shift heads to directors, as well as the scientific potential of the sector is mainly the graduates of the chair. On the basis of the chair, in 1997, “Mining” of Kapan branch was established, and in 2003, the chair of “Mining and metallurgy enterprise economics and management” at the “Mining and metallurgy” department.
10 monographs, 5 textbooks, 2 terminology dictionaries, more than 25 tutorials, around 100 educational and teaching guides were published by the teaching staff of the chair.
Scientific research works are carried out in line with the educational processes, that refer to the research and utilization technologies of mining.
Computer auditorium “Geo-information technology” was established in 2007 that is equipped with modern technical means and programs (“Datamine” licensed program).
Currently, the chair closely cooperates with “Zangezur copper and molybdenum” combine, “Teghut”, “Geopromining”, “Base Metals” and a number of other mining companies.
The chair educates specialists on bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and research engineers, in the following specialties: “Mining and mineral extraction” and “Nature protection (in mining and metallurgy branch)”.
Chair Overview
The chair was established in 1948 and till 1966 functioned within the Mechanical engineering department as “Metallurgy and metal technology”. In 1966, the chair of “Metallurgy and metal technology” was divided, one of which, the chair of “Metallurgy and casting”, was relocated to the newly-established Mining and metallurgy department and was renamed to the chair of “Metallurgy and materials science” in 2009.
The engineering education is being carried out at the chair of “Metallurgy and materials science” on the following qualification degrees: the bachelor of engineering, the master of engineering, postgraduate studies and graduants.
The chair has 4 laboratories, 1 specialized auditorium, 1 computer auditorium and modern means necessary for the provision of educational processes.
15 lecturers currently teach at the university, namely 6 doctors of science, professors, 7 PhDs, associate professors, 2 PhDs, assistants.
The teaching specialists at the chair, in aggregate, have authored more than 1160 scientific papers, 90 patented inventions, 2 monographs, 7 textbooks, 13 tutorials and 160 educational and teaching literature.
Graduate masters of the chair of “Metallurgy and materials science” are highly demanded and can work in different spheres.
The chair organizes scientific seminars every month, as well as preliminary debates on the thesis of postgraduate students and graduants.
The scientific and teaching activities of the chair constantly improve, the scope of the cooperation of the chair with leading scientific and educational organizations and industrial enterprises expand as well as the quality of education improves.
The chair cooperates with the leading universities of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Belarus, including Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys, universities of Saint Petersburg, Novocherkassk, Kiev, Minsk Polytechnic and a number of other universities.
The main research directions carried out at the chair of “Metallurgy and materials science” are as follows:
1.Research and development of technology of hydrometallurgical processes of base non-ferrous metals and metal extraction from metal and sulfide ores,
2.Development of extraction technology of electrode materials and pure metals from secondary ore minerals,
3.Development of extraction technology of pure metals from oxide ores,
4.Development of extraction technology of metal powders and alloy powders,
5.Development of structural principles and technology of powder composite materials extraction, such as construction, anti-tribological, tribological, resistant, heat-resistant, reinforced, instrument cutting, metal and brilliant,
6.Thermal and thermo-chemical processing, including rhenium coatings, enhancement of tools durability and corrosion resistance,
7.Development of base phase separation of secondary ore components through hydrometallurgy.
Chair overview
In September 2001, by the decree of the Scientific Council of the university, the chair of “Economics and management of mining and metallurgy of enterprises” was established on the basis of internal resources (teaching staff, auditoriums) of the chair of “Mining”. Till that period, starting from 1994, engineer-economists were educated within the chair of “Mining” majoring “Mining and economics of metallurgical enterprises” specialty.
In the beginning of 2015, the chair was reorganized into the status of ‘sector’ and merged with the chair of “Mining and nature protection”.
Generally, as a chair and later as a sector, there were more than 250 graduates that work in different branches of economy, both in state and private enterprises.
Active works are being carried out to provide the sector with professional literature and teaching programs.
