Sports and cultural contest-festival “Polytechnic Games – 2021” has started

On December 10, sports and cultural, intellectual contest-festival “Polytechnic Games – 2021” started at National Polytechnic University of Armenia. The organizer of the event is the Student Council of the Polytechnic University. This year the games are organized in memory of Polytechnic University students who died during the 44 day long Artsakh war. The beginning of the Polytechnic Games was made in 2015 by the Student Council and has already become traditional. NPUA rector Gor Vardanyan, Vice Rector, Chief of Staff Elbak Elbakyan, Vice Rector for Educational Programs and Teaching Affairs Marinka Baghdasaryan, Vice Rector for Science and Technological Cooperation Areg Grigoryan, Vice Rector for International Cooperation and Educational Reforms Sargis Asatryants, Vice Rector for Economic Activity and Infrastructure Maintenance Karapet Torchyan, directors of the institutes, lecturers, students and guests were present at the opening ceremony of “Polytechnic Games 2021”. Parents of the heroes who studied at the Polytechnic University were present.

While welcoming the participants, namely parents of the heroes, teams, team leaders and people present at the event organized in memory of the heroes form the Polytechnic University who protected and died for the defense of our motherland, NPUA rector G. Vardanyan expressed his gratitude to the parents of the heroes, because they symbolize the bright presence of their sons just by being present at the event. G. Vardanyan pointed out that after the war, a new culture has formed among the student population that every event, irrespective of its content, will be dedicated to the heroes of the war due to whose deeds, life as well as engineering and intellectual mind, borders of our motherland exist and we all continue to live on, get educated and work. The rector pointed out that the heroic and patriotic features of the Polytechnic students oblige us to work every day and deserve the deeds they have committed for our motherland. The rector encouraged everybody to learn from our history, be more educated, intellectual, healthy and flexible and never forget about their friends who died during the war.

Chairman of the Student Council Mikael Martirosyan also welcomed the participants, highlighting that this year the contest-festival is dedicated to the memory of victims of the war and it aims to make known the names and deeds of the heroes who died at the war for us to live on. Staying devoted to the major principle of the Polytechnic University such as the mission to award and show tribute to the heroes of the Artsakh war for freedom, we should highlight that during the upcoming two weeks the students of the institutes, faculties of the university, college and high school students will compete with each other in a series of competitions, that are held in honor of the Polytechnic students. Football matches will be dedicated to Mikael Muradkhanyan, volleyball competitions will be dedicated to Kamo Grigoryan, basketball – in honor of Gor Grigoryan, arm wrestling – in honor of Davit Kirakosyan, table tennis – in honor of Sargis Gevorgyan, chess – in honor of Mushegh Daniyelyan, national games – in honor of Shavarsh Beniaminyan, shooting – in honor of Sargis Tsaturyan, rope pulling – in honor of Davit Torosyan. The Cup of the Intellectual Games “What-where-when” will be dedicated to Ara Safaryan, “Intellectual Game” competition – in honor of Gevorg Grigoryan, “Brain ring” competition – in honor of Hayk Chakhalyan. From the cultural games, the Song Contest will be dedicated to Tigran Hovhannisyan, dance competition – in honor of Grigor Ghazaryan, all theater performances will be dedicated to Davit Jalavyan. Sport at the Polytechnic University has its own place, and Polytechnic Games are such an event that can unite the student population and make student life more interesting. Sports and cultural events are important parts of student life to maintain healthy lifestyle and academic routine. “The young person striving to achieve heights” is the slogan of the sports and cultural, intellectual contest-festival of “Polytechnic Games 2021”. Under this slogan, in the upcoming two weeks, around 300 students will compete in football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, shooting, chess, national games, arm-wrestling competitions as well as various cultural and intellectual competitions will be organized.
