Ashot Melikjanyan

A.Melikjanyan was born in 1899, in Agarak village of Stepanavan region. After leaving the local parish school he continued his studies at Tbilisi Nersesyan School and left it in 1919. He worked at “Spartak” Youth Union during his study years.

In 1920 A. Melikjanyan moved to Armenia. In 1921 he worked in Stepanavan region as Deputy President of the Committee. He was elected secretary of regional committee of the party of Dsegh village, Lori region where he worked till 1923. He was ordered by the decision of the Central Committee of ACP to study at Armenian State University. In 1928, after graduating the engineering faculty of the university he obtained the specialty of engineer, hydraulic technician. Parallel to his studies, from 1926 onwards, A. Melikjanyan held responsible positions at the water economy construction of Armenia till 1933, and was awarded the Red Flag Medal.

In 1933, by the decision of the Central Committee of ACP, he was appointed at agricultural department where he worked as a construction supervisor and from 1934 he worked at the newly-established Yerevan Chemical Combine as the head of the unit and later as the head of the construction. From August 1937 he started to work as director of Yerevan Polytechnic Institute.

After managing the institute for some months till the Great Patriotic War he worked as national commissary of Armenian water economy and later at local industrial national committee. From the first days of the war he fought in the army. In 1944, he started to work as the chief inspector at the department of engineering affiliated to ASSR national council.
