The first week of the International Baccalaureate (IB) at Polytechnic

The First Week of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) at NPUA Yerevan High School

The NPUA Yerevan High School is the first public school in Armenia to offer education through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP). Here are the impressions of some students from the first cohort about the program and their first week of classes.

“I came from an international school in Thailand, where I was studying under the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) program. When I learned that NPUA Yerevan High School had received IB accreditation, I decided to apply because I want to pursue an engineering path in the future. The Diploma Programme develops critical thinking, which leads to overall growth. Although the International Baccalaureate has a 30-year history in Thailand, I can say that our school is in no way inferior.”

“At the NPUA Yerevan High School, I learned about the IB, became interested in the Diploma Programme, attended the preparatory courses, and realized that this is what I want. My goal is to pursue higher education in the USA, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme offers a great opportunity for me. The classes are very intensive and engaging, and the program is unique. I would love to see the Diploma Programme subjects taught in all schools. The Diploma Programme prepares individuals who can face challenges with dignity at different stages of life and keep up with international trends. The IB DP encourages students’ independence and their desire to discuss and explore, rather than just read the lesson and simply recite it.”

“I chose the IB because it prepares us for admission to international universities. It is valuable that we have the opportunity to choose the subjects we want to study. All subjects are taught at a high level. I am confident that by the end of our studies, we will have in-depth knowledge in all subjects.”

“I studied in grades 1-9 at the ‘Yerevak’ Educational Complex, then got accepted into NPUA Yerevan High School, where I am now studying in the Diploma Programme. I can say that the format and approach to education at this school are the most suitable for me. There are classes where the group consists of just 2-3 people, which is almost like having an individual approach. Except for Armenian studies, all other subjects are taught in English, which is a very important factor.”

“I came from the Artashes Shahinyan Physics and Mathematics Special School. I was accepted to both Shirakatsy Lyceum and NPUA Yerevan High School. There were many reasons for choosing the Polytechnic School, but the most important for me was that we can use the University’s laboratory facilities, which is essential for my future profession. I have chosen

Electrical Engineering. The education at the school is conducted in English, which will greatly help us in the future, as we will be fully adapted to an English-speaking environment.”
