In this fastest growing world, Education system is also the one changing rapidly. Accordingly, to find new ways and methods to make knowledge more accessible to learners, as well as to enter the single global educational environment, the National Polytechnic University of Armenia Foundation Yerevan High School 2022 acquired the status of a candidate school within the framework of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, pursuing authorization as an IB World School. The authorization process forms a new structure of activities related to more efficient use of the educators’ resources and organization of new teaching methods.
Emphasizing the importance of the teacher’s role in education, a lot of activities have been implemented including meetings with the qualified teachers demonstrating best results, the administrative and academic staff of the NPUA Foundation, as well as the invited specialists. As a result, the teaching staff has been selected and formed.
To design the precise subject curriculum, disseminate knowledge and exchange the best practice, Vice-rector for Pre-University Education Elbak Elbakyan and Vice-rector for Internationalization and Reforms Sargis Asatryants had a meeting with the teaching and administrative staff of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
Welcoming those present, NPUA Vice-rector for Pre-University Education Elbak Elbakyan mentioned that their aim is to implement admission in 2024 academic year, which requires a long, interesting and hard work to achieve high results. He also highlighted that the implementation of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a complex and diverse work due to the new pedagogical system.
This process forms a new structure of activities related to the new organization of the learning process. According to Mr. E. Elbakyan, IB World Schools share a universal philosophy and are focused on high-quality, sustainable international education and the student involved in IB program should feel/realize that the person is entering a new, unfamiliar educational environment, but at the same time is surrounded with friendly, skillful and trustworthy teachers.
Lida Aghajanyan, the coordinator of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, represented the mission, programs of the International Baccalaureate, the steps expected from the teaching team and other related issues. According to her, education is the only way to change the world for the better, and the NPUA Foundation Yerevan High School is aiming at developing lifelong learners who thrive and make a difference. Established in 1968, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme now has more than 5,000 schools, whose alumni get a “green light” in the field of international education and in such top universities as Stanford, Oxford, and Cambridge.
According to Sargis Asatryants, Vice-rector for Internationalization and Reforms, the goal of the university is to bring a meaningful, modern, and competitive educational program to the NPUA High School, where the role of the teacher will be really decisive.
Vice-rector Sargis Asatryants invited all teachers to introduce themselves and share their ideas followed by an open discussion and brainstorming. Getting acquainted with the selected teaching staff activities, the vice-rectors highlighted that having students with creative thinking requires having a teacher with creative thinking.
Wishing everyone good luck, Mr. E. Elbakyan spoke about the sequence of steps and the results expected from teachers. He noted that all teachers should undergo online trainings which will help to design the new curriculum by offering new tools and toolset.
During the meeting other issues related to the organization of the educational process were also discussed.
