Vice-president of the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) of IBM, Doctor Leon Stok was awarded the title of the Polytechnic University Honorary Doctor

A long awaited meeting. Vice-president of the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) of IBM, Doctor Leon Spok was hosted at the National Polytechnic University of Armenia. As recognition of the huge contribution of Leon Stok in the sphere of information and communication technologies and to signify his visit to the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, based on the decision of the Scientific Council of the University, Leon Stok was awarded the title of the Honorary Doctor of NPUA. Leon Stok considered the title of the Honorary Doctor unexpected and revealed that it is high honor for him to be inside the university and feel himself appreciated and famous. The Polytechnic University is considered to be the center of High Tech center on the map of global IT sphere. From 2009 onwards, every year, the award is given to one individual the contribution of whom in the sphere of IT is revolutionary having positive effect on the humanity. This contribution can have different reflections such as technological, educational, organizational and financial. At the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, Leon Stok has met NPUA leadership, academic staff, students as well as representatives of sectorial scientific institutions were present. The main contribution of Doctor Stok is the creation of innovative chips that provide the functioning of cloud technologies, data analysis, mobile, social and security system in businesses. His team designs global design and testing systems and program tools that are used by the biggest mega-computers IBM Z and Power systems, as well as for the design of IBM Quantum. Director of Synopsys Armenia Hovik Musayelyan pointed out that in the previous years, prominent people in the sphere of Information Technology were awarded NPUA Honorary Doctor title namely the founder of the Internet Lui Puzen, co-founder of Apple Computer Corporation Steve Wozniak, President of the Board of Directors of Intel corporation Craig Barrett, co-author of iPod and iPhone trademarks Tony Fadell, author of the concept Virtual Reality Takeo Kanade that  defined a new yardstick by their ideas in the sphere of information technology. Hovik Musayelyan pointed out that these visits are a great opportunity for students, students feel the necessity of education by the means of meeting the giants of IT, and the guests can discover and know Armenia. Vice-rector for Education Marinka Baghdasaryan also welcomed the guests and those present, and assured that the meeting will stay in the minds of those present for long years. The vice-rector encouraged Doctor Leon Stok to visit the National Polytechnic University of Armenia again and lecture in front of bigger audience. At the end of the meeting, Doctor Leon Stok held a short professional speech for university employees, researchers, lecturers and students. Leon Stok studied at Eindhoven Technological University, the Netherlands, and finished it with merits in 1986 and in 1991 he received his PhD at the same university. In 1999-2004 he managed all the researches of the sphere of design automation of IBM as a senior coordinator of IBM research design. Doctor Stok has authored course-books and more than 40 speeches at many leading universities, at conferences of IEEE and ACM and he has authored more than 60 papers being published at high rating journals.
