High grades, high competition, and additional new places: Polytechnic High School will welcome 248 schoolchildren in September

869 schoolchildren have applied to continue their education at Polytechnic High School. Number of applicants was 4 times more than places assigned for the admission, total of 216 places.

“Natural sciences and math education is highly demanded currently: this year, the pass grade was 14,5 points. Competition was rather high and we had a serious competition” – Deputy Director for Studies of NPUA High School Nelli Hambardzumyan points out who deals with school admission processes from 2014 onwards.

Taking into account the high competition, Polytechnic University leadership has decided to increase number of places, thus the overall number of applicants admitted was 248.

This year, schoolchildren applied to study at NPUA High School that initially decided to study at this school. The fact is both inspiring and obliging: it means that the school carries out its mission with dignity and provides high academic performance, and shapes a strong and venerable citizen.

Polytechnic High School carries out profound teaching of natural sciences and math as well as technical disciplines targeting the shaping of understanding of applied sciences and engineering specialty among the learners. The school has advanced programs that prepare future engineers with excellent knowledge who continue their professional education in technological universities and become high quality engineers.

“The school carries out its mission very good in this respect. Almost all graduates of the school have applied to universities.  The main and best graduates of the school continue their studies at the Polytechnic University although there are some graduates that enter other universities. I am delighted to point out that this year our 5 schoolchildren have applied to and got enrolled in the best foreign universities. We have always had such schoolchildren but this year their number was higher. It is due to the fact that currently young people follow their dreams and are more independent” – Nelli Hambardzumyan points out.

According to the deputy director, they work with their schoolchildren right from the beginning, encourage research abilities of the learners and shape their skills, involve them in projects and voluntary activities.

“The voluntary works our schoolchildren do are very important for me. Team of volunteers is huge at NPUA High School: they all want to do something for the school and the Polytechnic University. It offers a unique opportunity to the learners to do an unpaid work by encouraging and developing skills and abilities that will further help them in their job and education. Non-formal communication is important as well. We also cooperate with the Admission Center and this year 101 learners applied to work voluntarily there. 20 schoolchildren had an opportunity to participate in the admission process and this is an exciting fact” – highlighted the deputy director.

Everything is done at the school to involve the learners in the atmosphere of creativity and critical reasoning and cooperation thus motivating the learners to constantly develop and become leaders.

It is proven by all the Olympiads and sport competitions where our schoolchildren have had successes. High School learners also make use of Polytechnic University laboratory base.

“Introduction to Engineering” subject is carried out at Innovation Center and schoolchildren have lessons at Unmanned Aerial Vehicles laboratory and many others. Schoolchildren take tours around all the laboratories, carry out different projects and understand completely their future profession. Master classes, open lessons and some additional educational clubs are held at school.

This year, we have organized series of “Extracurricular lessons” meetings and more than 10 meetings were organized. One new project “Unicum” was added to other interesting projects where learners present a video clip on the topic of their choice.

A pilot program for NPUA High School learners in 3 directions was launched at the Engineering Town last year, namely “Aviation modeling”, “Robotics” and “Radio Engineering”. The program enables the schoolchildren to study tuition free at laboratories of the Engineering Town, get familiar with engineering, and carry out programs that are a great opportunity for any student.

During this year, on international platforms, and Olympiads, High School learners have had excellent results thus the Polytechnic University and Armenia were represented on high level. Victories and all the successes were celebrated at the Polytechnic University and winners were awarded monetary awards besides medals.
