New skills and capabilities: summer school “Aerial Robotics” at the Polytechnic University is a platform for their professional orientation

It is a unique opportunity for the schoolchildren of general education institutions such as enriching their summer vacation with the engineering knowledge. National Polytechnic University of Armenia has organized the summer school “Aerial Robotics”.

During 2 weeks, for 15-18 year-old people from Yerevan and provinces, the only Engineering institution of Armenia, the Polytechnic University with its infrastructures, laboratories, skillful academic staff, theoretical and practical courses, has opened opportunities for schoolchildren considering engineering to be their future specialty.

The aim of the summer school was to provide schoolchildren with practical knowledge on subjects of their interest, by means of practical courses and professional games to assist them and enrich their knowledge in the sphere of aerial robotics.

At the start of the summer school, Vice-rector for Academic Affairs Marinka Baghdasaryan has welcomed the participants and pointed out that the university is in reform stage and effective measures are being taken in this context.  The Polytechnic University attaching high importance to Armenia’s vision as an engineering and technological country, involves schoolchildren right from school in acquisition of innovative skills.

Chief mentors of the summer school, President of the Student Council Mikayel Martirosyan and its member Narek Hambardzumyan welcomed participants and initiated the courses according to the agenda.

23 schoolchildren during 2 weeks at the summer school “Aerial Robotics” acquired new capabilities and skills as well as professional orientation.

Schoolchildren from Ararat High School, NPUA High School, Hovhannes Tlkantintsi N 1 secondary school, YSMU College, A. Chekhov N 55 school, Charentsavan N 5 main school, M. Manushyan N 48 school, Givat Haviva international school (Israel), Sevan M. Mashtots N 1 main school were among participants of the summer school.

Courses for the participants were held by NPUA lecturers Hrayr Galoyan and Anush Darbinyan who held practical courses on robotics. In order to organize the summer school for the participants on high level, the Polytechnic University has provided its laboratory and academic staff resources. The courses were combined with interesting games and intellectual activities. Before the final day of the school, participants had an opportunity to operate the unmanned flying device in the open area (in Yeghvard) that was extremely motivational for the schoolchildren.

At the end of the summer school, NPUA Chief of Staff Gevorg Harutyunyan has given certificates of participation to all participants and hoped that they will have orientation in choosing their profession in the future joining the main driving force of the future, i.e. the engineering education.
