Projects of ANEL students at the DigiTec Expo 2018

Students of ANEL (Armenian National Engineering Laboratories) introduce their projects within the framework of technological exhibition of DigiTec Expo 2018.

ANEL is a leading experimental center comprising more than 30 specialized and universal teaching and scientific research laboratories established in 2013. It is located on the territory of Yerevan central branch of National Polytechnic University of Armenia and cooperates with different educational institutions comprising students from different universities in the projects.

The goal of ANEL is the development of innovative business activities, the increase of international competitiveness of Armenian companies as well as to fill the theoretical knowledge provided by the universities by practical work and factual experience.

One of the projects presented at the exhibition was called “Labyrinth”. Within the framework of the international competition held in Moscow, students have designed a robot that, as a result of folding its knees, decreases in size and can pass through pipes of 11-20 cm in diameter, take pictures inside and provide data about damaged and clogged places of the pipes in real time.

Thanks to collected data, if the pipes are damaged, specialists instead of digging the whole street will dig and restore just the damaged part of the pipe.

Within the framework of “Help to Health” project, students have designed a program that targets the monitoring of data provided by medical equipment at home and send those results to the doctors.

The program user registers in the system, and gets an ID card, buys a medical device to be used at home (thermometer, device to measure blood pressure and glucose levels etc.) and after doing the measurements anywhere, data are sent via SMS messages to the clinic or hospital where the user is registered. Based on the data, if necessary, the user of the program gets a call from the hospital, gets instructions, and in case of bad conditions, somebody from the emergency visits the patient, previously being aware of the problems of the patient.

The goal of one of the projects is to provide security for companies or educational institutions. The main targets are schools and universities, where learners get their individual code and their data are entered into the database. The student or the employee while entering the building holds the code close to the camera. The system opens the door if recognizes the code, otherwise it signals that the person is not registered in the database. The system is designed both for security and recording of the attendance of schoolchildren and students. It should be mentioned that unlike the card system, it is more reasonable and easily applicable.

The smart robot Cartbot designed by three students is designed to move people’s goods at the airports, big shopping malls and stores. The prototype of the robot is designed to move 2 suitcases weighing 5-7 kg, and the real one will be twice bigger and will manage to move about 100 kg loads in the form of 4-7 suitcases.

There are special sensors on the robot, thanks to which it notices the barriers and evades the hits.

It transmits a signal when somebody tries to steal the suitcases. Besides the main functions, there is a special thermostat for the cups on the robot to keep the average temperature of the drinks. It is possible to charge the phone batteries via the robot.

The robot to detect bombs is designed to demine the territories without human force losses. The robot is controlled by the Bluetooth. In case of bomb detection, it sends a signal and via GPS system it transfers the coordinates of the bomb to the main system. Currently, it detects the bomb 20-25 cm deep and is controlled from a distance of 20 meters, and in the future, the depth and control distance can become even more.

Students of the medical university together with ANEL employees have designed a Bionic Arm.

It assists when you should do any activity on some distance or in a place where something can threaten human lives. By means of special sensors on the arm, impulses are sent based on which the movers attached to the designed arm will function accordingly. As a result, the Bionic Arm copies the movements of a human hand.
