Students at the laboratory of Aerial Robotics after Arik Melikyan at National Polytechnic University of Armenia (NPUA) work on the design of drones for its further production. As Nerses Nersisyan, one of the students working on the design of the drones, highlighted during the interview with the correspondent of NEWS.am at the second engineering exhibition-forum, the drone will be ready in summer or autumn of 2018.
“In the experimental platform of the laboratory that is surrounded by the metallic net, 20 special optical cameras are installed that enable to fix the location, speed and slope of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The advantage of our laboratory is that in these conditions it is possible to quickly find out how the drone can carry out the solution to the problems while analyzing the received 3D data”, – Nerses Nersisyan pointed out.
According to him, drones can be used in different spheres: in the army, economy as well as a special stabilizing device has been designed for amateur photography. The laboratory examines the Parrot AR.Drone Quadcopters to design, develop and produce the drones.
The Aerial Robotics Laboratory opened in March 2018 at NPUA along with its technical equipment is one of the best ones among similar laboratories functioning in similar technical laboratories on the whole Post-Soviet territory. “Motherland” foundation has allocated 200 thousand dolars for its establishment and National Polytechnic University of Armenia provided 40 mln Armenian drams.
This experimental platform was modeled on the example of similar laboratory of the University of Illinois, the head of which is our compatriot Naira Hovakimyan, post-graduate student of professor, famous Soviet scientist, A.M. of Russian Academy of Sciences
