“Vallex” group of companies hosted delegation from the Polytechnic University

On May 26-29 delegation of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia had a business trip to the Republic of Artsakh. “Vallex” group of companies hosted the delegation of the university, headed by rector, Professor Vostanik Marukhyan, in “Base Metals” and Armenian “Teghut” company. 

Delegation comprised the academic staff of the Mining and Metallurgy faculty, executive director of the Union of Miners and Metallurgists Volodya Kirakosyan and students. 

 The best specialists of the sector in Armenia visited the Republic of Artsakh, got acquainted with the enterprises of “Vallex” group of companies operating in the second Armenian Republic.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan hosted the delegation of the Polytechnic University on May 27. The Prime Minister welcomed members of the delegation and pointed out that an efficient relation and cooperation with the National Polytechnic University of Armenia has been established.  “It is important that your visit has its own program. Your cooperation with “Base Metals” CJSC will reinforce the relations with Artsakh, I am sure. We highly appreciate the technological contribution of the university in the economy of Artsakh and we would like to continue the development of our cooperation” – head of the executive power pointed out.   Expressing their gratitude for the warm welcome, NPUA Rector V. Marukhyan presented details of the visit to the Prime Minister.  He mentioned that based on the offer of “Base Metals” CJSC management, we start long-term and stable cooperation with the company to prepare excellent specialists that will be reinforced by the signing of the Memorandum. “We are happy to reinforce our cooperation with Artsakh as our next step. I am sure that this will be ongoing both for the economy and the security by means of our scientific potential utilization” – V. Marukhyan highlighted.

Afterwards, in the presence of the Prime Minister, rector of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia Vostanik Marukhyan, executive director of “Base Metals” company Arthur Mkrtumyan and executive director of the Union of Miners and Metallurgists Volodya Kirakosyan have signed the trilateral Memorandum of Cooperation.

Both in Artsakh and in Teghut, NPUA lecturers had meetings with Polytechnic alumni who currently hold important and responsible positions in the industry. After the visit of the territory of Teghut mining complex, the meeting of the delegation with the president of “Vallex” group of companies Valeri Mejlumyan has taken place and cooperation directions were discussed.  This summer, about 30 students and lecturers will hold practical externships in Kashen mining complex. The two month program will also be considered a job opportunity and the students will get salary. Programs of cooperation were also discussed.

Impressions from Artsakh finalized in Teghut, where current and future specialists of the sector were impressed by the super-modern technologies installed in the production process.

Afterwards, the delegation traveled to Alaverdi Copper Smelting Plant. 

 The top management of the company welcomed the guests at the Green hall of “ACP” company. Many were the alumni of the Polytechnic University and some employees worked and studied at NPUA at the same time. Here, the participants were introduced to the 247 year history of the plant, future programs, especially the program of new and modern plant construction in partnership with China.

Then, the delegation visited the copper smelting unit. “ACP” CJSC director Lusine Mejlumyan pointed out: “Taking into account the perspectives of Chinese cooperation, we will have a high demand of chemists, mechanics, metallurgists and power engineers.  That is why the Memorandum signing is of utmost importance. First of all, we expect to host this summer students from Lori or Alaverdi, who will work and understand the production during their summer holidays. I am sure that this will bring them back to their hometown and will assure them on the right choice of specialty” – L.Mejlumyan pointed out.

   The prospective programs of the copper smelting plant motivated the representatives of the academic staff and students.

 NPUA rector V. Marukhyan was satisfied and highlighted: “The employer nowadays offers new beneficial cooperation demands to the university. Currently, the student should not only have theoretical knowledge and only 2 months of internship before entering any organization or production unit, but it is also important for the employer to dictate the study plans, subject modules, their content as well and we are successful to find partners who direct their activities into that sphere.  I would like to thank Mr. Mejlumyan, Mr. Mkrtumyan who understood our discussions and currently we can emphasize that the beginning is successful”.

 At the end of the work visit, managing director of “Base Metals” CJSC A. Mkrtumyan awarded NPUA Rector V. Marukhan Gold Medal for the establishment of fruitful cooperation foundations between the University and “Base Metals” CJSC.
